State

State represents whether an action still requires effort.

PMU defines two states.

StateDescription
OPENThe action still requires effort or attention
CLOSEDThe action no longer requires further effort

Open State​

An open action:

  • still has operational relevance
  • may still accumulate work
  • may still change status
  • is expected to require further effort

Closed State​

A closed action:

  • is operationally complete
  • is not expected to receive additional work
  • is considered finished from a lifecycle perspective

Closing an action does not necessarily imply success.

For example:

  • a completed project may be closed successfully
  • a canceled project may also be closed
