PMU Core Concepts

PMU (Project Management Unified) provides a lightweight but expressive model for representing projects, tasks, work, and reporting across multiple project management systems.

The goal of PMU is not to replace project management tools such as Monday.com, Trello, Asana, or SmartSheets. Instead, PMU creates a unified semantic model that standardizes how projects and work are represented so that reporting, analytics, and operational intelligence can be applied consistently across systems.

PMU is intentionally minimalist:

  • A project contains tasks.
  • Persons are assigned to tasks.
  • Persons perform work for tasks.
  • Projects and tasks both behave as actions.
  • Actions have a state and a status.
  • Attributes, tags, and roles enrich the model.
